Update on 'A Learning Ambition for Norfolk'

During the Summer term Sara Tough, Executive Director of Children's Services, wrote to education colleagues to share how we feel our vision for 'Every Child in Norfolk to Flourish' can promote a shared learning ambition that enhances partnerships to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Since then, we have undertaken a programme of engagement activities to enable colleagues in the system to give their views on how we can work more closely together to create the conditions for all children and young people to succeed. We are grateful for all colleagues who so generously gave their time to share their views.

Feedback and Response

Our conversations with you told us that the following five themes were the right things to focus on and that the best way to address them was through working collaboratively.

  1. Capacity and Expertise of the Education Workforce
  2. Ensuring Effective Transitions
  3. Improving Data and Information Sharing
  4. Supporting Resilient Families and Communities
  5. Enhancing the self-improving System through a Norfolk Collaborative Standard

System Led Priority Task Groups

In response to this feedback, we would very much like to work with you to establish system-led Priority Task Groups for each of the themes. Our aim is for each group to co-construct and support a programme of activity around their theme.

It is vitally important that these task groups are from the system and work for the system. We would therefore very much like to invite and encourage any colleague from across the system with expertise or an interest in one of the themes to be part of one of the Task Groups. There are many ways you can contribute to the task groups, depending on your capacity. If you would like to take part, or nominate someone in your organisation, please contact us at norfolklearningambition@norfolk.gov.uk.

This is an exciting development, which recognises that through collaboration we can utilise the strengths already in the system to support outcomes for all of our children and young people. We would like once again to thank all those who took part in shaping them.

Norfolk Learning Board

On 13 November 2023, Sara Tough hosted a meeting of the Norfolk Learning Board (NLB). The meeting brought together the original members of the Board to consider the key messages from our programme of engagement and agree a way forward.

In order to reflect the feedback from the system, the Board agreed to reorganise as the Norfolk Learning Collaborative, widen their membership and to meet again in the New Year. If you are interested in joining the Collaborative, please contact Samantha Fletcher.

The Learning Ambition has partnership and collaboration central to its success, and the more voices that are able to contribute to its continued development, the better it can serve the children and young people of Norfolk, so please do consider how you can take part.
