10 x £5,000 grants available for all Norfolk schools to apply for

  • Would you like to be 1 of 10 schools in Norfolk to receive a £5000 grant to help improve road safety and active travel around your school?
  • Would you find it helpful to receive tailored support in promoting considerate parking and reducing congestion outside your school?
  • Would you like more information and support to encourage people to walk, wheel and scoot on the school run?
  • Would you like the opportunity to work with Norfolk County Council in piloting an exciting new intervention?

If you've answered YES to any of the above questions, then we have the perfect opportunity for you.

Norfolk County Council has secured funding from Active Travel England to encourage active travel choices across the county.

We want to hear from any schools who would like to pilot our new active travel survey and who are keen to create a culture of active travel and road safety across their school.

There are 10 grants available and schools will be chosen at random to take part in our new Active Travel Survey and pilot.

To register your interest in taking part in this pilot and be in with a chance to receive a £5000 grant for your school, please email roadsafety@norfolk.gov.uk.

We expect interest to be high for this opportunity and you only have until Friday 8 March 2024 to email us.

The 10 successful schools will be informed by Friday 22nd March 2024.

All schools that register will receive further information to support them in improving road safety and active travel within their school.

What are the benefits:

Active travel to school benefits us all. More people cycling, walking and scooting to school ultimately means there are fewer cars on the road, less pollution and less congestion outside the school gates.

By taking part in this pilot, not only will you be helping to shape and improve how road safety and active travel is being delivered across Norfolk, your school will receive the following benefits:

  • A grant amount of £5,000 to help you improve active travel choices across your school.
  • One-to-one support to help you complete your schools active travel survey and set realistic goals which links into your school's overall active travel objectives.
  • Assistance in creating a practical action plan for you to achieve your active travel goals.
  • Signposting to support and funding that your school can access and benefit from.

All we ask from you in return is to:

  • Complete an initial Active Travel Survey.
  • Allow six months to implement your goals supported by the grant funding.
  • Complete a post evaluation Active Travel Survey to monitor your progress on how things are going.

This offer is free and funded Active Travel England.
