Wraparound childcare is childcare that wraps around the school day. This provision can be offered by schools, private, voluntary and independent (PVI) providers, including childminders and early years settings. It can be run on a school site or at another setting in the area.

The principal aim of the programme is to ensure childcare provision is regular, has longer hours and is more dependable for working parents. Schools can look at outside providers to run this for them within the school; the provision does not need to be run by the school itself. Wraparound can support vulnerable children, attract parents to the school, support a soft start to the school day and improve attendance.

There is funding, tapered over 5 terms, which can cover staffing, training, transport costs, resources, running costs whilst demand builds. Please click to access the Grant Expression of Interest process.

We are hosting a "Let's Talk About Wraparound" conference on 23 April 2024 where you can hear from guest speakers covering topics such as business planning, inspirational playwork practice and local stories of successful wraparound provision.
