Management Information Sheet
Asbestos control and management compliance code - update and action
Following review and feedback we have updated the Asbestos control and management compliance code P602, Asbestos management plan F602, Management of asbestos-containing objects G602 and the Asbestos management checklist C602.
It is important that you and your relevant staff read these documents, ensure that you have identified those responsible locally, and that they have completed the required training.
You must also ensure that the revised Asbestos management plan F602 is completed and implemented for your premises.
Actions for headteachers and premises managers:
- Please ensure that you familiarise yourself /your teams with the revised compliance code and associated guidance.
- Refer to P602 to identify who is responsible for the management of asbestos, e.g. premises manager, site manager etc, and ensure that they have completed NCC training - Safe Management of Premises - Asbestos within the last 3 years.
- Details for our schools can be found in P611s School Health and Safety organisation, responsibilities, and arrangements (Part 1 and Part 2), which you must have completed for your school.
- Ensure that you complete the revised F602 document fully and implement the correct controls, detailed in F602 and in the compliance code.
- Use the Asbestos management checklist C602 to verify that you have the correct controls in place.
- Arrange for the purchase and installation of a Premises Information Box to provide the emergency services with information on the location and condition of identified asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).
In the case of Community, Voluntary Controlled, maintained, Voluntary Aided and Foundation schools - please ensure that you advise the NCC Health, safety and wellbeing team prior to any planned or unannounced visits from HSE, to ensure that we can provide support and advice.
Our documents are available on Infospace - please search using the document number and use the most recent version.
