School Recruitment Advertising Scam: Trading Standards Warning
Trading Standards are warning schools to be alert to scams involving recruitment advertising.
A Norfolk school has reported that, shortly after placing a recruitment advert on a well-respected website, they received a telephone call from another company. The company's introduction initially led the school to believe that they were the well-respected website. However, they said that they would fax through a copy of the advert, which would need their approval within 2 hours so that it did not miss the deadline. The school then received a fax asking them to place their order at a price of over ?900, at which point they suspected it to be a scam.
It soon became clear that the company were not linked to the respected website at all. Instead, they were offering to sell advertising space on their own website. In contrast with a printed publication, there is no reason why a recruitment website would have a 'deadline' for accepting an advert. For further information, or for any school which has inadvertently returned an 'order', please contact Trading Standards.
