Revision of the Norfolk Agreed Syllabus - Spring 2011

The Agreed Syllabus Conference has now met twice and the following actions have been agreed:

  • The text of the agreed syllabus will be redrafted to take into account the clarification of 'learning about' and 'learning from' religion, an enquiry based learning approach and inclusion of secular worldviews.

  • A Professional Update will be created to supplement the current guidance material. This will include exemplar material for all key stages on using an enquiry based learning approach, curriculum frameworks, guidance on promoting spiritual development through RE, assessment for learning materials and a revision of the suggested religious content for Judaism, Islam and Christianity, as well as adding Humanism.

The Professional Update will include material that is already being used in schools, as well as commissioned material. This will most likely be available to all through the VLE, and may be available as hard copies. In light of this, we are trying to gather materials together which we can use for the exemplification. If you are able to offer material you will be asked if you are happy for it to be shared with others. You can provide material anonymously if you wish, or you can be credited. Some material may be adapted or changed in light of the refocus of the syllabus, but you will always be asked before this is done and shown a copy before it is shared with others.

If you are able to email any of the following please let Kathryn know as soon as possible, and by 6th May at the latest:

  • Curriculum overviews/Long Term plans which have 'concepts' as the focus e.g. a concept of 'authority', or a concept of 'sacrifice'...

  • Curriculum overviews/Long Term plans which have 'key questions' as their starting point for units of work

  • Curriculum overviews/Long Term plans for mixed year groups in primary schools

  • Curriculum overviews/Long Term plans where RE is not taught once a week as a discrete subject e.g. RE is taught as part of a creative curriculum, Opening Minds programme, Integrated Humanities...

  • Schemes of Work/Learning Enquiries where students enquire into a 'big' question

  • Examples of enquiry based learning e.g. using philosophy for children in RE, using the TASC problem solving wheel, using dilemma based learning...

  • Examples of assessment tasks in all Key Stages, especially non written tasks.

  • Please email Kathryn directly with any materials at the following email address:
