Head of Religious Education - Science and Faith Speakers for Schools

The following academics are available to come into schools to talk and discuss issues relating to science and faith. They all have a Christian faith background. They would be most suitable to work with gifted and talented groups at Key Stage 4, and also for Sixth Form A Level groups.

David Andrews, D.L.Andrews@uea.ac.uk Professor of Chemical Physics at UEA with special expertise in quantum mechanics and photonics. Willing to talk to schools on 'Why Science and Christian Faith need not conflict'.

Prof Nick Brewin, nick.brewin@bbsrc.ac.uk is an Emeritus Fellow at the John Innes Centre.
He is interested in plants, bacteria, genes, and evolution. He could speak or lead a discussion on either of two themes.
1.Food security and global agriculture in the 21st century;
2.Human evolution and theology: where have we come from and where do we go from here?

Dr Peter Bussey bussey@physics.gla.ac.uk is an active researcher in experimental elementary particle physics, now retired from student teaching at Glasgow University and resident in Norwich and a member of Holy Trinity Church, Norwich. I can talk quite broadly on the religion/physical sciences interface: Cosmology, Quantum physics, etc.

The Rev'd Dr Patrick Richmond phr@eatonparish.com, Vicar of Christ Church, Eaton, is Secretary of the Science Faith Norfolk group and an associate of the Faraday Institute of Science and Religion at Cambridge. A former cell-physiologist, he has written numerous articles and given several lectures on science and faith at Cambridge and addressed sixth formers at the City of Norwich School, Norwich School and Shrewsbury School. He could speak on scientifically informed arguments for God; scientific explanations for religious belief; Richard Dawkins' arguments, and the ethics of abortion and euthanasia.

Please contact them directly. David Andrews and the group are keen to develop school links. This is an excellent opportunity, and we suggest inviting them into school to meet with a group first and to discuss your 'requirements'!
