Schools Offered Free Membership to National Trust Farm Project

The National Trust is offering Norfolk schools free membership to its MyFarm project for the next 12 months.

The project aims to involve schools in farming and food production to make children think about where their food comes from and how its made, grown and harvested. Joining MyFarm gives members a say in running a real, working farm of more than 2,750 acres on the National Trusts Wimpole Estate near Cambridge. MyFarm members vote on key decisions affecting the farms future: which crops to sow; which animals to keep; what machinery to buy and much more. Through regular blogs, videos, web-chats, photos and discussion forums schools can get involved and pupils can learn more about where their food comes from.

The Trust has recently started adding Teacher Tools to its MyFarm website with downloadable lesson plans; whiteboard files and more for teachers to use in class.

Membership is usually £30 per year but schools are being given the chance to join for free by emailing myfarm@nationaltrust.org.uk with: the name of the headteacher and the schools name and address. Schools will then be emailed a gift code to join MyFarm for free. Membership is open to schools, year groups or individual classes.

The membership does not include entry to the farm itself, which is subject to the usual Trust and Estate entry fees.
