Safe Use of Tidal Mudflats

In the summer term of 2011 a trip to Southend on Sea by a London school nearly ended in tragedy when a group of children and adults using the mudflats were caught by the incoming tide. Fortunately, everyone was helped to safety, but Southend LSCB would like to ensure that future visitors to the area use the mudflats safely.

With the return from holidays many schools will be undertaking educational visits to areas such as Southend, which may involve using tidal mudflats.

Please read the attached electronic leaflet, developed in partnership with Thames Coastguard, on the safe use of tidal mudflats.
