Now Open for Bookings: Norfolk PE Teaching Competence Standards (NPETCS)

This highly successful and national renowned programme is now in its seventh year of operation! Empowering schools to provide high quality PE, this programme is aimed at Primary Phase Teaching Assistants to equip them with the knowledge, skills and competence for teaching PE and ensuring the delivery of High Quality PE and School Sport. This programme not only helps Headteachers to provide PPA cover through PE but also to raise standards and ensure a sustainable delivery structure.

The programme includes:
  • Mentor and delegate briefing
  • Teaching High Quality PE
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activities at KS1/2
  • Risk Management in PE
  • Athletics at KS1/2
  • Inspiring High Quality Dance in the Curriculum
  • Teaching High Quality Gymnastics Module 1
  • Teaching High Quality Gymnastics Module 2
  • Teaching Games at KS1
  • Teaching Games at KS2


    This course provides Teaching Assistants with:
  • a massive boost to their self-confidence and self-esteem
  • the competence and confidence to take responsibility for a class of pupils and teach them high quality PE
  • over 60 hours of PE specific training, helping to develop a secure and thorough subject knowledge significantly above that of some QTS ITT trainees.

    The Course provides Head teachers with:
  • the ability to deploy these specialist Teaching Assistants to cover PPA time or to raise standards of teaching and learning in PE in a cost effective manner
  • employ these specialist Teaching Assistants safe in the knowledge of the quality assurance offered through the programme.

    To successful candidates:
  • the ability to be employed in any Norfolk primary school to teach the full range of physical education activities (excluding swimming)
