Developing a CAMHS toolkit

The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) partnership has committed to supporting staff in Universal settings (non-specialist mental health settings) develop their understanding of CAMHS across Norfolk. As part of this we have already developed:

  • a website which signposts people to appropriate local and national information
  • a Guide to Norfolk's CAMHS, for more information please click here.
  • and regularly distribute a CAMHS newsletter.

We have also been offering a series of training courses for staff to develop their understanding of mental health, for more information please click here.

From listening to the views of staff and reviewing the evaluations from the work we have completed so far, we have identified that staff in universal settings would like some more detailed information to help them understand the CAMHS system, and how they access services. A number of practitioners from CAMHS have come together to draft a 'toolkit' of information, advice and guidance to support staff further develop their understanding.

The purpose of the toolkit is to:
  • Develop a 'practical tool' which will help staff working in universal settings feel confident in supporting children and young people at risk of emotional and mental health concerns
  • Help demystify CAMHS - and help people understand the CAMHS system
  • Help us move forward in de-stigmatising mental health making it everybody's business
  • Develop a greater awareness of mental health across Norfolk, the types of services available and how to access them
  • Provide set of useful tools and information to help people make informed choices
  • Make it easier for people to understand, get help earlier and feel supported

To make sure we get the 'toolkit' right we would really welcome your views. If you could spare 5 minutes to complete a short survey to tell us what you think. Your comments will then be added into the toolkit's developments. The survey is open until 23 January 2013.
