Kidscape ZAP assertiveness training for primary aged (Years 5 & 5) and secondary aged pupils in summer holidays

Please be advised that we are running Kidscape ZAP training for both a primary (Years 5 and 6 only) and secondary group of young people in the summer holidays. It will take place on the Tuesday 11th August for the primary young people and Thursday 13th August for the secondary young people. The venue will be at Hewett Community Base (on site of Hewett High school) in Norwich but will be confirmed directly with the parents/carers of those attending. The course teaches children the assertiveness skills needed to deal with bullying. It is based on the Kidscape ZAP assertiveness training course. Please advise your staff and let them know that if they are interested in referring any children for this course they will need to get parental or carer permission and complete and return the attached form by post.

We will be providing pizza for lunch at 12.45 pm and if they can, we would like parents/carers to join from lunchtime onwards. We will meet with parents separately to discuss any of their concerns and explain the programme. Parents also need to know that they need to make their own transport arrangements for dropping off and collecting their children. We attach a map of the venue for you to pass on to parents/carers. The benefits of ZAP are outlined in the attached project which shows how it was used with LAC children. Also attached is an application form which schools will need to complete with parents.

Please can you ask staff to:

  1. Decide on the young person they feel would benefit and discuss with them and parents/carers. Young person and parental/carer agreement is essential. Parents (and young person) should be given a copy of the DCSF Flyer for schools and be informed that they are welcome to attend from lunch onwards i.e between 12.45pm 3.15pm. Please note on the form which parents/carers are attending. We will start at 9.30 am.

  2. Complete the application form and send to Rita Adair at 301 King Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 2TN, (telephone 01603 307567),to arrive no later than Friday 17th July so we can have time to inform those who are successful that they will be attending.

  3. This year we will be charging schools ½25 per child attending which will be claimed back after the event via invoice or journal depending on whether you are an Academy or a school.

PLEASE NOTE - APPLICATIONS SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETED ONLINE BECAUSE WE CANNOT ENSURE CONFIDENTIALITY THIS WAY.
