Youth Social Action

Norfolk County Council is looking for youth social action ambassadors! We are looking to recruit and train at least one youth social action ambassador at each secondary school in Norfolk.

Research has been done that shows that only 25% of our young people take part in meaningful social action. This compares to a national average of 40%. We want to change this and actively encourage our young people to get involved in social action in whatever form it takes.

We are hosting an event on Saturday 28 November at the Forum in Norwich for any of your pupils who are interested in taking part in or finding out about becoming a social action ambassador. Their role would be to explain to other young people what social action is, the benefits of getting involved and how they can find opportunities.

For example, they could deliver assemblies, PSHE lessons or write something for their school newsletter. They could help to identify barriers that young people are faced with when trying to take part. They could help support the fundraising and intergenerational projects.

We know that young people gain a huge amount when they volunteer their time, fundraise for a local charity or campaign on issue they care about. They

  • Learn new skills
  • Do better at school and college
  • Find it easier to get a job
  • Feel better about themselves
  • Meet new people
  • Better understand people from different backgrounds.

On top of all this they help people living in their local community and have fun.

We would appreciate it if you could encourage students to apply, for example by putting up the enclosed posters. Young people can register their interest here.
