Norfolk youth parliament elections
Norfolk Youth Parliament is a group of nine young people elected by their peers to tackle concerns of young people in Norfolk. This is an excellent opportunity for young people who want to make a difference and stand up for their peers in Norfolk.
Our current Members of Youth Parliament are coming to the end of their two year term. They have taken part in some outstanding opportunities including debating in the House of Commons, fantastic residential weekends to help set the national youth agenda and working with schools and other partners to tackle young people's concerns around mental health.
We would be grateful for your full support to engage the young people in your school in the election. It is important that all young people have the opportunity to either stand in the election or vote for their preferred candidate and take part in a democratic process.
You can help us promote the Norfolk Youth Parliament election in the following ways:
- Encouraging young people to stand in the election. All the information young people need to know about standing in the election is available online here: www.norfolk.gov.uk/youthparliament. Closing date for application is Monday 15 February.
- Nominating a teacher (this might be the teacher responsible for your school council) to lead an assembly on the election in mid-March to encourage your students to vote. Young people can vote by text for FREE with the name of their preferred candidate. We will send you more information about the candidates nearer the time, including posters and a powerpoint presentation.
- If you are interested in a member of the Consultation and Community Relations team speaking to your students about the election please let me know.
In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact Ben Dunne on 01603 495102 or ben.dunne@norfolk.gov.uk
With best wishes
