Pilot Primary STEM project- Robotics and Coding Launch Event

I am thrilled to be able to provide you with information about an exciting new development for STEM in Norfolk and a new programme aimed at engineering, computing and technical design. STEM is an integrated approach to the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

First let me introduce myself, I am Bernice Dixie, the new STEM coordinator for Educator solutions. I am working with a wide range of stakeholders in the community and others to develop a STEM program in Norfolk which has a number of different innovative, stimulating and inspiring educational events and projects that schools can get their hands on.

This new pilot programme involves 'Robotics and Coding.' It can provide pupils with an immersive learning experience through the use of a fully programmable robotic kit to solve practical tasks in the classroom and/or afterschool clubs. You can see further details at the LJ Create website by following the link below:

The programme is a new and dynamic approach to support schools in raising standards in numerous of the key STEM subjects. The Chief Ofsted inspector stated last week, that “primary school are struggling to prioritise science” 1 (BBC, 2016). This programme seeks to contextualise learning through robotics and also caters for all three learning styles (VAK). Combining this with the students having the ability to compete against other schools in the region, with the possibility to then compete international in the World Educational Robot Contest (WER), this project has huge potential. For further detail please see the link below:

Worldwide Educational Robot Contest - www.wercontest.org

You are invited to a free 'Robotics' event on Thursday 9th June 2016 (3pm until 5pm) at The Study Centre, Norwich City Football Club. Please respond by 7th June as there are only limited number of places available. To book your place(s) please respond promptly to bernice.dixie@educatorsolutions.org.uk.

I very much hope that you will join me at this event to find out more and to be inspired. I feel very confident that schools will want to adopt this exciting robotics programme.

I look forward to hearing from you.
