Encourage your pupils to Write On Norfolk

Norfolk County Council and the Eastern Daily Press (EDP) are calling on the county's youngsters to get imaginative, put pen to paper and enter a brand new creative writing competition this summer.

Write On Norfolk, our competition in association with Jarrold, is a fun new way of helping Norfolk children keep up their writing and literacy skills over the summer holiday.

The competition is open to Norfolk's school children aged 5-13 years and is for an original piece of creative writing. Entries can be submitted from Monday 6 June until 31 August and will be judged by an inspiring panel of writers, business people and leaders with a special interest in Norfolk and its young people.

We are asking schools and teachers to help encourage young people to get involved and start thinking about their entries. The writing can be in the form of a story, a letter, a diary entry or a poem but it can't be more than 500 words long, and it must have some link or reference to something, someone or somewhere in Norfolk.

The competition is split into three age categories (5-7, 8-10 and 11-13) and there will be Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in each category. The results will be announced at a special event in September.

Not only will the children be in with the chance of winning up to £75 of Jarrold book tokens but each winning entry will be published in the EDP and used as part of Norfolk County Council Libraries' autumn storytelling festival. Every entrant will receive a special Write On Norfolk certificate and for those who are enrolled in the Children's University, their entries will earn credits towards their degree.
