What to do if you believe a child/young person might be at risk of suicide - consultation workshop

Consultation workshop for schools

Outline

The aim of this workshop is to seek the views of school leaders about developing new guidelines for what to do when they believe a child or young person is at risk of suicide.

Description

A review of children who died following suicide/self-inflicted harm in the time period 2010-2015 was recently undertaken by various agencies including CAMHS, public health, health, school nursing, children''s services, police, etc, on behalf of the Child Death Overview Panel. We will now develop new guidelines on behalf of the Norfolk Safeguarding Board, so that everyone working with children and young people know what to do when they believe that a child or young person may be at risk of suicide. This workshop will ask the views of school staff, so that their needs can be taken into account when developing guidelines.

We will be sharing the findings of our review, and then discuss together on how we can think of meeting the needs of children and young people in school environments, when developing new guidelines. We will also be thinking about how we can best implement those guidelines and what training we may need to offer.
