BookTrust: Start the Story - Making Reading Connections in your School

BookTrust are hosting free training events in Norwich on 4th and 5th December. The events are aimed at school librarians, teachers, and anyone else with an interest in promoting reading for pleasure, with separate primary and secondary sessions.

These practical sessions will focus on engaging students, families and the wider school community with reading for pleasure, supporting you to develop new approaches and ideas, and create connections through reading.

At the event for primary practitioners, we'll be joined by Jon Biddle, local teacher and coordinator the Patron of Reading initiative. He'll be sharing simple strategies to create genuine whole school reading communities. Our second set of speakers are the team from Hillcrest Primary School, who'll be sharing the process behind launching their new Text Linked Curriculum, and the challenges and successes experienced so far.

At the KS3 event, our speakers will be 2016 School Librarian of the Year, Amy McKay, and 2016 Honours List Librarian Alison Tarrant. Amy will share her top tips for making the library a welcoming place for students, staff and families, while Alison will introduce the thinking behind her school's new Reading Community policy, and what this looks like in practical terms.
