Law Essay Competition for Sixth Form Students in Norfolk
A law essay competition for young people in Norfolk has been established by nplaw in memory of their former Practice Director, Chris Skinner, who sadly died last year.
This is a really good opportunity for students who are interested in law to :
- develop key research skills
- practise writing techniques
- think about how the law affects people's lives
- exercise critical thinking skills
It can also help students stand out when applying to universities and in future employment opportunities.
The competition is open to students in Years 12 and 13 who work or study in Norfolk. Essays should be no more than 2000 words long and focus on discussing the question: Should parents be allowed to take their children out of school for holidays during term time?
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of £100 and the opportunity to complete a week's work experience with nplaw in the summer of 2018. Runners up will be awarded Highly Commended certificates.
Entries will be accepted at any time until the closing date of 26 February 2018. All essays should be submitted, with the entry form (see link below), to fiona.anthony@norfolk.gov.uk.
The entry form and more information, including a sample case summary, can be found on our website at www.nplaw.co.uk/chris-skinner-memorial-law-essay-competition.
Chris Skinner lived and worked in Norfolk for most of his career and made an outstanding contribution to local communities as an exceptional lawyer. He was passionate about nurturing the legal talents of the next generation and helping young people interested in the law into employment. nplaw, the legal practice he helped to establish, has decided to establish a law essay writing competition in his memory.
