Name a Gritter competition

Welcome to the Name a Gritter competition! Norfolk County Council is excited to welcome seven new gritters to the county and we're looking for the best names Norfolk's school children can think of.

Children between the ages of 5 - 11 should to come up with their best names for their local gritter truck which they'll be able to spot out and about in their area this winter.

Once children are back from half-term, their teacher should pick their top three. An overall top three from each school should then be submitted along with the name of the student who came up with it (unless they wish to stay anonymous).

Submissions can be made on this online form.

The winning entries will have the chosen name written on one of our new gritters as well as the name of the winning school. This will stay on the gritter for the remainder of its lifetime.

Pupils from each school have the half-term break to come up with three names for the new gritters. The names should have a wintery feel and should be no more than three words long.

The competition is now open and closes on Friday 6 November. The winning names will be announced on Monday 9 December.

The fleet currently includes gritting vehicles with these names:

  • Blitzen Blaster - Caister Junior School, Caister-on-Sea.
  • Boudica - Falcon Junior School, Norwich.
  • Chittygrittybangbang - Thorpe House Langley Prep School, Norwich.
  • Freya Frost - Kinsale Junior School, Norwich.
  • Grittersaurus - Yaxham CoE VA Primary School, Dereham.
  • Ice Interceptor - Caston CofE VA Primary School, Attleborough.
  • The Grittenator - Horsford CofE Junior School, Norwich.
  • Winter Warrior - Howard Junior School, King's Lynn.
