Moderator-led Assessment Network - EYFS

The Moderator-led Assessment Networks are provided for Norfolk maintained schools and academies/free schools and independent schools who have subscribed to the Norfolk statutory assessment monitoring services.

The programme of events and support materials will be focused on statutory assessment at the end of YR, to enable teachers to feel confident in making accurate assessments and moderating using remote platforms. It will be inclusive of those who are experienced and those who are new to assessing in that year group. Receiving teachers (those in Y1) and teaching assistants are also welcome.

It is intended that delegates attend network meetings 1, 2 and 3. These will need to all be booked separately so that you can choose the most convenient dates.

The EYFS networks will be inclusive of those using the current Profile as well as those who are early adopters of the new Profile.

Outline

The programme will enable all teachers in YR to feel confident in making accurate assessments and moderating using remote platforms. It will be inclusive of those who are experienced and those who are new to assessing at the end of the EYFS.

Description

The training will consist of:

  • Online meetings - where active exploration and discussion is a necessary part of the training. These meetings will have breakout rooms where teachers can hold discussions in smaller groups wth colleagues from across the county and school-based LA moderators
  • Electronic documents - to support thinking during the meetings and outside of them
  • Gap tasks - which will involve the practical application of key factors explored during the sessions. Anonymised feedback from these tasks will be collated and fed into the content of the following network event

Lead moderators will lead the meetings and school-based LA moderators will support discussions in the breakout rooms.

Day 1

During this session, we will explore some differences between the new and current frameworks. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling of common evidence bases, provided by us, exemplifying different attainment in the Prime Areas. We will use the exemplification materials for the current framework and, until the revised exemplification materials for the new framework are published, early adopter schools will use the revised ELG descriptors to enable discussion and agreement on standards.

Discussion will also centre around the Characteristics of Effective Learning. We will consider how amendments that you have made to your curriculum might enable a depth in learning in these areas, not currently seen in evidence bases.

Materials will support teachers in carrying out a gap task and to provide feedback anonymously, ahead of day 2 of the MLANs.

Day 2

During this session we will explore some differences between the new and current framework. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling of evidence bases for Literacy and Expressive Arts.

Day 3

During this session we will explore some differences between the new and current framework. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling of evidence bases for Mathematics and Understanding the World and will use the exemplification materials for the appropriate framework to enable discussion and agreement on standards.

Discussion will also centre around the Characteristics of Effective Learning in these areas. We will consider how amendments that you have made to your curriculum might enable a depth in learning in these areas, not currently seen in evidence bases.

Materials will support teachers in carrying out a gap task to prepare them for making final assessments.
