Moderator-led Assessment Network - KS1

The Moderator-led Assessment Networks are provided for Norfolk maintained schools and academies/free schools and independent schools who have subscribed to the Norfolk statutory assessment monitoring services.

The programme of events and support materials will be focused on statutory assessment at the end of Y2, to enable teachers to feel confident in making accurate assessments and moderating using remote platforms. It will be inclusive of those who are experienced and those who are new to assessing in that year group. Receiving teachers (those in Y3) and teaching assistants are also welcome.

It is intended that delegates attend network meetings 1, 2 and 3. These will need to all be booked separately so that you can choose the most convenient dates.

Outline

The programme will enable all teachers in end of key stage year groups to feel confident in making accurate assessments and moderating using remote platforms.

Description

The training will consist of:

  • Online meetings - where active exploration and discussion is a necessary part of the training. These meetings will have breakout rooms where teachers can hold discussions in smaller groups with colleagues from across the county and school-based LA moderators
  • Electronic documents - to support thinking during the meetings and outside of them
  • Gap tasks - which will involve the practical application of key factors explored during the sessions. Anonymised feedback from these tasks will be collated and fed into the content of the following network event.

Lead moderators will lead the meetings and school-based LA moderators will support discussions in the breakout rooms.

Day 1

This session will be focused on the reading framework. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling, standardising shared evidence bases and considering how the teacher has demonstrated that the child has achieved each of the standards. We will consider how curriculum amendments might enable progression to the higher standard and how this will support the writing attainment also.

Materials will support teachers in carrying out a gap task and to provide feedback anonymously, ahead of day 2 of the MLANs .

Day 2

This session will be focused on the writing framework. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling, standardising shared evidence bases and considering how the teacher has demonstrated that the child has achieved each of the standards. We will consider how curriculum amendments might enable progression to the higher standard and how understanding and enjoyment of reading will support this.

Materials will support teachers in carrying out a gap task and to provide feedback anonymously, ahead of day 3 of the MLANs .

Day 3

This session will be focused on the maths framework. Teachers will take part in agreement trialling, standardising shared evidence bases and considering how the teacher has demonstrated that the child has achieved each of the standards. We will consider how curriculum amendments might enable progression to the higher standard and how National Curriculum spoken language objectives and discussion opportunities play vital roles.

Materials will support teachers in carrying out a gap task to prepare them for making final assessments.

Outcome

  • Make accurate assessments using the assessment frameworks
  • Understand how to assess attainment that may be less typical, e.g. for children with SEN
  • Use online platforms to moderate children's attainment
