New Teaching School Hubs in Norfolk!

The DfE has confirmed that schools in Norfolk will be supported by two new Teaching School Hubs from September 2021.

Each hub will serve schools in distinct districts:

  • Broadland, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk and Norwich: Julian Teaching School Hub (based at Notre Dame High School)
  • Breckland, Great Yarmouth and South Norfolk (plus Waveney): Inspiration Teaching School Hub with a central delivery site in Norwich and intended satellite sites in Thetford, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Both hubs will begin operating in September 2021, forming part of a new network of 87 centres of excellence for teacher training and development. They will play a key role in the government's recruitment, retention and development strategy over the next three years.

On Wednesday 17 March, 4-5pm we are holding a briefing event for schools (register here: http://bit.ly/TSHubs170321), together with the other hubs in East Anglia. We appreciate that this is short notice, and provide further details below. We are also working with Norfolk CC to produce a county-specific briefing, with details on the Early Career Framework and appropriate body services.

Teaching School Hub role

Teaching School Hubs will provide high-quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their careers, playing a significant role in delivering:

  • the Early Career Framework (ECF) via designated national providers (more on this very soon)
  • school-based initial teacher training (ITT) in partnership with local providers

  • the new specialist national professional qualifications (NPQ) and leadership NPQs through designated national partners
  • appropriate body services for early career teachers in association with existing area provision

  • wider continuous professional development offer in partnership with curriculum hubs and wide range of collaborating organisations

Planning for the September 2021 launch

Both hubs are committed to collaboration, determined to do what we can to achieve coherence and clarity for Norfolk's schools and harness the wide variety of significant contributions by others such as initial teacher training providers, curriculum hubs, school improvement partners and former Teaching Schools for the benefit of all schools and their pupils in the county.

Working with the DfE, Teaching School Council and a range of national partners, we are in the process of establishing the delivery partnerships and collaborations necessary to bring this large-scale, integrated offer to all schools across Norfolk.

We very much look forward to the opportunity of linking and working with you and your staff as we establish the Teaching School Hub network activity across Norfolk. Should you have any questions or wish to contribute to shaping significant next steps please do contact the Teaching School Hub with responsibility for your area (as outlined above).
