Fully-funded training and resources from the DfE to help you teach statutory RSHE

Teaching statutory RSHE this term

The law requires schools to provide some relationships and health education to all primary age pupils and some relationships, sex and health education to all secondary age pupils in the remainder of this academic year. Schools should prioritise RSHE content based on the needs of their pupils, with attention to the importance of positive relationships, as well as mental and physical health.

DfE fully funded training to help you plan and teach statutory RSHE!

This training from the DfE incorporates the materials announced by the DfE on 7 June 2020 onwards, personalises them to boroughs and brings them to life and will support staff in schools to be able to cascade the training and embed it more securely in their schools. Training includes live sessions on:

  • Knowing the context of your area
  • Working well with your community

There are also pre-recorded modules on:

  • Curriculum planning
  • Wellbeing
  • Adolescent body and first aid
  • Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  • Health and prevention, physical health and fitness and healthy eating
  • Internet safety and harm, being safe online, relationships and media
  • Caring relationships and families

Please see attached flyer for more information and how to book places.

Water Safety Education as part of RSHE

Schools are encouraged to build on the core statutory RSHE content with additional relevant themes to meet the needs of their community. Given our locality, water safety is likely to be an additional feature. The RNLI have produced free education resource packs for water safety to include lesson plans, assembly videos and posters, including multi-lingual versions suitable for each key stage, to help schools teach children and young people about how to keep safe in on or around water. These can be accessed on the RNLI website.
