Arranging Minibus assessments - a message from Norfolk Road Safety

To the attention of drivers and schools:

As you are aware our assessments have been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however we are pleased to confirm that we are now in a position to resume our face to face driver training services.

In order to arrange your assessment date(s), please make contact with your allocated trainer, details of which you should already hold. Please note assessment dates will not be able to take place until week commencing 14 June 2021.

If your trainer is not available at present for assessments, please come back to our office and we will provide you with an alternative.

Please confirm any dates/times/drive details booked with our trainer by e-mailing us roadsafety@norfolk.gov.uk so that we may forward the relevant driver pack for your driver(s) to read in advance of their assessment.

Should the driver/school need to cancel the assessment, we require 5 full working days' notice. Failure to provide this notice will result in the full fee still being charged. Cancellations due to illness will be viewed sympathetically.

In order to ensure the safety of both our trainers and drivers, please see listed below, conditions outlined regarding our Covid safe procedure. All of these conditions must be met in order for the assessment to proceed.

The driver will not be able to participate in the assessment if:

  • they or anyone in their household (or support bubble) have had coronavirus symptoms (new cough, high temperature and loss of smell) in the last 14 days
  • they have been told to self-isolate by a Doctor or the Test and Trace service

Our trainer will also confirm the above questions with the driver prior to the assessment taking place.

The driver will be expected to wear a face covering during the assessment, unless they are exempt. Failure to provide this on day of the assessment will result in the session being cancelled and still charged.

Please ensure the driver uses hand sanitizer before and after the assessment.

In car ventilation must be set to draw in fresh air (not circulate). Windows will be required to be open also.

The driver will be expected to bring their own pen for signing the assessment sheet.

The driver must provide their driving licence on the day of the assessment and must be placed downward for the trainer to read without handling.

All sessions will take place on a one to one basis meeting outdoors adhering to social distancing rules. Any pre or post drive discussions will also take place outside the vehicle.

The driver/school will receive a copy of their assessment sheet by e-mail after the session has taken place. In the case that they need a copy that day, they will be permitted to photograph this without handling the assessment sheet.

The school must provide us with evidence of a log of vehicle cleaning and risk assessment for Covid control measures within school in advance of the assessment taking place. Please e-mail this to roadsafety@norfolk.gov.uk.

The vehicle must be thoroughly cleaned before the assessment takes place with all touch points cleansed. If the trainer feels the vehicle is not clean, the session will be cancelled and still charged.

We recommend that drivers taking assessment with us complete a lateral flow test one day prior to the assessment and record their results on government web site.

By proceeding with your booking(s) drivers are accepting the possible health risks when undertaking the assessment.
