CPD Survey - Headlines so far and last chance to have your say

Happy New Year and a big 'Thank You' to all those who have taken part in the CPD Survey so far.

As you know, Norfolk County Council is working in partnership with CPD providers, to strengthen our collective responsiveness to your professional development needs. This survey has been developed in consultation with the Norfolk's Teaching School Hubs and results will be shared with all local CPD providers, to stimulate their planning and design of CPD programmes which best meet the needs identified by you.

Below, is a summary of headlines so far, but if you would like to add you views, we would like to offer one last chance for you to have your say to influence your regional CPD offer, so will be keeping the survey open until Friday 14th January. It is crucial that the survey is as representative as possible, as a high return rate is essential to gaining an accurate picture of need from which to forward plan.

As the questions are wide ranging, it may be necessary to consult with members of the SLT, in particular the SENDCo.

The survey should take between 5-10 minutes of your time to complete depending on your phase:

Summary so far:

  • Of the 20 areas of teacher focussed CPD listed to scale, foundation subjects were identified as being priority areas with between 24% - 33% of schools surveyed, identifying CPD in DT, Computing, Science, Languages, History and Art as being needed, but either unavailable, or inaccessible due to barriers. (DT: 32.7% unavailable or inaccessible; Computing: 29.3% unavailable or inaccessible; Science: 29.3% unavailable or inaccessible: Languages: 27.6% unavailable or inaccessible; History 27.5% unavailable or inaccessible; Art: 24.1% unavailable or inaccessible).

  • Of the 11 EYFS CPD areas listed to scale, EYFS tracking emerged as a priority with 33.4% of schools surveyed identifying CPD in this area as a needed but unavailable or inaccessible.

  • Of the 12 SEND CPD areas listed to scale, 'Evidence-based interventions and strategies' and 'Holistic assessment of attainment and progress' emerged as priorities, with 33% and 31% of schools respectively, identifying CPD in these areas as a needed but unavailable or inaccessible.

  • Of the 7 areas of whole school CPD listed to scale, TA Training was a clear priority with 41.4% of schools surveyed identifying CPD in this area as a needed but unavailable or inaccessible; Pupil Premium Strategy CPD came in second with 27.6% of schools survey identifying this as a CPD needed but unavailable or inaccessible.

  • 19.2% of schools surveyed stated that leadership training pertaining to leading more than one school (in a partnership or federation model) was needed and not available.

  • Of the Nationally funded providers listed, more than 50% of those surveyed were not aware of the Behaviour Hub, Science Learning Partnerships, Ed Tech Demonstrator Schools or Women Leading in Education Networks and wanted to find out more about their offer.
