Registration for Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is open

Big Walk and Wheel - 21 March - 1 April 2022

We would like to invite you to take part in Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2022 - the UK's largest FREE walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school competition.

On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school.

The three best performing schools in Norfolk will each receive a free Micro Scooter as a prize for one lucky child.

The challenge will run from Monday 21 March to Friday 1 April 2022 with a programme of free daily lesson plans which are suitable for remote learning.

There is also a range of resources for children who have specific barriers to participation that prevent them from taking an active journey to school.

Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is an opportunity to introduce active travel to the school in a fun and positive way.

Participating in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel also contributes towards gaining Modeshift Stars accreditation. All Norfolk schools can register for free

A survey carried out during the 2021 event showed that:

  • 2% of children currently cycle to school, but 14% would like to
  • 2% of children currently scoot to school, but 10% would like to

And, when we asked teachers who took part in Big Pedal 2021 'How likely are you to take part in the competition next year?' 99% of respondents said they were likely/very likely to take part.

"With over 2,000 journeys to school during the Big Pedal we visibly reduced the traffic congestion around the school gate and for the first time the parent car park had spaces." - Teacher, Claytons Primary School

Need more motivation?

If you register before 9 February you will be entered into a draw to win a prize from the Sustrans shop worth up to £50 - perfect for rewarding a class that tries their hardest.
