Assessing and Moderating using the Engagement Model and Pre-Key Stage Standards

Outline

This training will take place over 2 sessions to support those who are assessing children working below the standard of the key stage at KS1 or at KS2, to accurately assess their children. For these children it is vital that the right information is exchanged in transition discussions with the receiving teacher to ensure effective transition and an appropriate ongoing curriculum is in place.

This training will support and develop an understanding of SEN learners with practical examples; this will allow teachers to embed a sensory approach to enable engagement.

During the training we will take you through the Engagement Model and how assessing the 5 areas of engagement can support in planning a curriculum that involves those you may be currently finding it difficult to engage. We will also explain and discuss the pre key stage standards and how to accurately assess using the these.

The second session will be an opportunity for you to hold professional discussions with colleagues about children working below the standard of the key stage. This will involve discussing evidence bases shared by the presenters as well as an opportunity for you to discuss and agree assessments made for children that you work with.

Description:

The training will consist of:

  • Session 1: Online training (28th April 0900-1130hrs MS Teams)
  • Delegates will attend an online training session that will enable them to understand the Engagement Model and Pre-Key Stage Standards. Discussions will be centred around examples provided and strategies for developing engagement will be shared.
  • Session 2: Face to face meeting - (19th May PDC or 26th May The Ffolkes Arms) Delegates will attend a face-to-face meeting where they will be given the opportunity to hear about and discuss the assessment of two learners. They will then apply what they have learned to a discussion about the progress and attainment of their own children.
  • Electronic documents - a pack of useful resources will be shared, along with supporting research and further online support.

Audience:

The training is aimed at making assessments and developing effective transitions at the end of KS1 and KS2. It is therefore most suitable for Y2 and Y6 teachers. Teachers and teaching assistants from any year group from Reception to Y6 would be very welcome and would find it equally as useful.

Booking information:

This training is funded for academies, free schools and independent schools who subscribe to Norfolk's statutory assessment monitoring services and to all maintained schools - specialist or mainstream. It will be initially limited to 2 delegates per setting at each face-to-face meeting.
