Safe Journey Ahead - Road Safety Teacher Training Project - New Dates
Norfolk County Council Road Safety Team has been successful in attaining a grant bid from the Road Safety Trust, which will enable 100 teachers to receive the Safe Journey Ahead - Road Safety Teacher Training for EYFS and KS1 pupils. This is free of charge.
For those who are part of the project, each delegate will receive three, one-to-one support sessions with a Road Safety expert to offer support in embedding the life skill of Road Safety to your school and your pupils.
The aim of this project is to trial a new and innovative way to teach Road Safety at EYFS and KS1.
Course details
The training session is free of charge. It is delivered live online using Microsoft Teams and runs for approximately 90-120 minutes.
This teacher training session will cover:
- What is Road Safety? How does it fit into a school setting?
- Road Safety and the curriculum
- Exploring Road Safety resources
- Planning Road Safety for your school
There are three follow-up sessions with a Road Safety expert who can offer support and guidance. These sessions will be presented at 2 months, 6 months and 12 months after the initial training.
Learning objectives
On completion of this session, you will:
- Be able to plan and deliver Road Safety interventions aimed at the needs of your school and pupils
- Have an increased knowledge on how to deliver the life skills of road safety to your pupils and where to find useful resources
- Have an increased knowledge on how to embed Road Safety into the curriculum
Who is it for?
This training is aimed at teachers, teaching assistants, school governors or any school member of staff who will be leading on Road Safety in your school at EYFS and/or KS1 at no cost.
Training Dates
The following dates in March are available to book:
- Thursday 17 March - 13.30 to 14.30
- Tuesday 22 March - 13.30 to 14.30
- Wednesday 23 March - 13.30 to 14.30
We are also looking for 10 schools (teachers) to become control schools
The control schools will receive the same training but starting in September 2022. If your school is interested, please email roadsafety@norfolk.gov.uk.
