Four tips for children trying school meals for first time

Please share this message from Norse Catering with your parents.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to infant free school meals (FSM), so Norse Catering has created four tips to ensure your child's experience is positive, enjoyable and that they are fueled for learning.

A spokesperson for Norse Catering commented: We are looking forward to welcoming Reception children this week. For any parents feeling anxious about their child trying school meals, take a look at our top tips.

  • Tip 1: Talk your children through the menu, so together you can identify dishes they know and like as well as new dishes they could try.
  • Tip 2: Show your child the picture menus featured on the Norse Catering website here.
  • Tip 3: Try some of the Norse Catering recipes at home - these are also featured on the website. The whole family can enjoy the tasty recipes.
  • Tip 4: Play pretend having a school lunch at home - see if your child can carry their own plate or tray to the table and pour a cup of water from a jug.

Information about free school meals is available on the Norfolk County Council website.
