Get your school or college involved with Local Flavours

Local Flavours was set up 10 years ago to support local food and drink producers across Norfolk and Suffolk and to also support the hospitality and tourism sector. The brand has evolved over the years and a recent piece of work includes an objective of bringing education and industry closer together.

The objective is one of many associated with something called the VENI Project and the Local Flavours team is already out and about giving valuable work experience opportunities to the next generation of chefs and others, looking at a career within the Visitor Economy.

The Local Flavours annual trade event takes place on Wednesday 21st September. It is free to attend and we welcome those with food responsibilities within their organisation. In education this can include teachers delivering food and nutrition technology and also those who serve up school meals. And from all school types.

Teachers attending will not only be showing their support for the local food and drink producers exhibiting at the event but will also be able to network and enjoy other activity to assist them with their role in education. On the day there will be:

  • Sampling opportunities with over 100 stand holders.
  • Business support services for the industries involved on the day.
  • Chef demos, including 3 local colleges with students on the stage.
  • The final of the Latte Throwdown, a regional Barista competition. Also on the Barista stage will be training and tips from the world of coffee.
  • At 2.30pm a skills talking shop. With representation from industry, education and public sector organisations.
  • Representation from the Food Innovation Centre, opening its doors that week and with commercial test kitchens available for schools to use.
  • A sustainability focus across many subjects.
  • The VENI team will also be there and can advise on opportunities, including funding, for schools and colleges.
  • Information on training courses both subsidised and free for staff and students associated with hospitality and tourism.

We welcome representation at the event from schools across Norfolk and Suffolk. Attached is the invitation to the event and you can find out more about the event at www.localflavours.co.uk You must register in advance to attend and a maximum of 6 per organisation allowed in free.
