Preventing and responding to absconding behaviours

Join our short webinar on 12 December 2023 and learn how Norfolk Steps can be used to help you prevent and respond to absconding behaviours.

Attendance at this webinar will enable you to:

  • Understand why some children and young people (CYP) may display absconding behaviours, and use this to reduce the risk of abscondence
  • Confidently respond to absconding behaviours to keep the school community safe
  • Write an effective behaviour plan that will enable all staff to prevent and respond to absconding with consistency for maximum effectiveness.

This webinar will provide guidance on how prevent and respond to absconding behaviours. Join this webinar to:

  • Consider ways to proactively meet the functions of behaviours and CYP needs so that the risk of absconding is reduced. This will align with Ofsted's evaluation of behaviour and attitudes which considers how schools create a 'safe, calm, orderly and positive environment' and recognises that 'disruptive behaviour can be an indication of unmet needs'.
  • Utilise best practice approaches to safely respond to absconding behaviours.
  • Access and contextualise proforma behaviour support plans and risk assessments.

As well as being available with advice and guidance, the Steps team will also share up-dates, including recently launched resources to answer questions which are brought to the session or emerge from this.

You will have opportunities to network, share good practice with colleagues from other Steps schools and ask questions to inform your own approaches.

Following the webinar you will receive a padlet of resources for you to contextualise to meet the bespoke needs of your school community, enabling you to spring into action without the need to invest more work that necessary!

This is part of a series of Steps webinars. You will need to book onto each individual webinar that you are interested in joining:
