Admissions policy

School admission policy : 2023/24 (Agreed)

THIS SCHOOL WAS OVER-SUBSCRIBED FOR SEPTEMBER 2022

Procedures where the academy is oversubscribed
After the admission of pupils with an education, health and care plan naming the school, if there are more applications for places than there are places available, we will give preference to children living nearest to the school, according to the following rules in this order of priority:
• Children in the care of a Local Authority (looked after children) or previously looked after children
• Children who have a sibling2 on roll at the academy at the time of the proposed admission
• Children of staff working for the school
• Children living nearest the academy, by straight line distance from the main entrance to the academy to the main entrance of the child’s home

Where the admission of children from multiple births would lead to exceeding the PAN, those siblings will be admitted over PAN
Where a child lives with parents with shared responsibility, each for part of a week, the address where the child lives is determined using a joint declaration from the parents stating the pattern of residence. If a child’s residence is split equally between both parents, then parents will be asked to determine which is the residential address for the purpose of admission to the academy. If the residence is not split equally between both parents then the address used will be the address where the child spends the majority of the academy week.
If the academy is unable to distinguish between applicants using the published criteria, places will be offered via a random draw which will be supervised by an individual who is independent of the academy

School admission policy : 2025/26 (Agreed)

All children whose education, health and care (EHC) plan name Cromer Academy will be admitted before any other places are allocated.

If Cromer Academy is not oversubscribed, all applicants will be offered a place.

In the event that Cromer Academy receives more applications than the number of places it has available, places will be given to those children who meet any of the criteria set out below, in order until all places are filled:

 1. Highest priority will be given to looked after children and all previously looked after children who apply for a place at Cromer Academy.

2. Priority will next be given to children with siblings at Cromer Academy. Siblings include step siblings, foster siblings, adopted siblings and other children living permanently at the same address. Priority will not be given to children with siblings who are former pupils of Cromer Academy.

3. Priority will next be given to children of staff at Cromer Academy, in either of the following circumstances: The member of staff has been employed at Cromer Academy for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage

4. Priority will next be given to children living nearest Cromer Academy, by a straight line distance
