Withdrawal of Long Service Award Scheme
Plans to withdraw Norfolk County Council’s Long Service Award scheme were discussed at the Schools Forum in February. This was one of the proposals made in the Big Conversation to achieve the necessary budget reductions facing the County Council over the next 3 years.
The final decision to withdraw the scheme was taken by County Council on the 14 February 2011, with effect from 1 April 2011. The County Council will honour any applications for long service which are submitted before 31 March for any employees who are leaving at the end of term in April.
Whilst Norfolk County Council will no longer be operating a scheme to reward employees for their long service on retirement or redundancy, a number of schools have expressed an interest in establishing and funding their own scheme. To that end, a copy of the Long Service Award scheme is attached for information. Schools are welcome to adopt the attached policy, however you may also wish to give consideration to the eligibility criteria when developing a policy which meets the needs of your school.
Please also note that the HR Shared Service Centre will no longer be able to administrate the Long Service Award Scheme, however will be able to confirm data on continuous service where clarification is required.
