The new RAG matrix has been included to illustrate the changes with regard to training requirements along with a copy of the Headteachers Training, Finance Staff Training and Governors Training programmes . Governor Training

It is important that all staff and governors are able to demonstrate the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to operate and manage the school finances. New untrained staff can pose a significant risk to the integrity of the schools financial information, whereas existing staff can pose a risk if skills and knowledge have not been kept up-to-date.

School staff and governors will be provided with a variety of ways to keep their skills updated. There are a number of tutor-led courses and E-learning courses that cover the essential skills required to effectively administer and manage finances within your school, along with a number of refresher courses to keep your knowledge updated. Refreshers also include attendance at a budget workshop, Fair Funding consultation, 1 budget visit, Finance Support Clinic and any ad-hoc finance events that are scheduled throughout the year.

The programme will be run over a financial year, giving all staff and governors sufficient time to update their skills and knowledge. The RAG rating for training will therefore be shown on the spring term RAG report that will be issued early in the summer term. The first time this will be introduced is the spring term 2014 and will continue to be reviewed on an annual cycle. The RAG rating given will stay in place for the duration of the cycle until the next annual review takes place. This only applies to the training section of the RAG, all the other criteria will be updated on a termly basis.

If you have any questions relating to anything above then please contact your school's Finance Support Officer in the first instance.
