Consultation on the 2017/18 and 2018/19 School Years
Our neighbouring authorities Suffolk, Cambridge and Lincolnshire have confirmed they are now consulting on the Eastern Region Model with their schools.
The calendars provide 190 teaching days (white) when schools must be open to pupils and on which home to school transport will be provided.
Days coloured dark blue are pupil holidays – five should be selected as staff training days and the Joint Chairs of Norfolk Headteacher associations have suggested the following:
2017/18 | 2018/19 |
---|---|
4 & 5 September 2017 | 5 September 2018 |
20 October 2017 | 18 & 19 October 2018 |
3 January 2018 | 19 December 2018 |
29 March 2018 | 2 January 2019 |
Alternatively schools may decide to work twilight sessions. |
When agreed, the Norfolk Model Calendar for each academic year must be used by community schools, community special schools, voluntary controlled schools and nursery schools. They determine the days on which school transport will be provided. Beyond this, governing bodies of foundation, voluntary aided, foundation special and free schools, and the trust of each academy continue to have the opportunity to consult on a different pattern but must bear in mind the need to minimise the impact on families, potential additional transport costs and the value of aligning term dates with our neighbouring counties.

This consultation closes on Friday 11 December 2015. Alternatively you can send your comments to Janine Birt, Bay 10, Floor 8, Children’s Services, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DL or email janine.birt@norfolk.gov.uk
The final agreed calendars will be published in the Spring 2016.
