Norfolk local induction programme for new, first time headteachers

The Local Authority has supported the induction of new, first time Headteachers for many years. Recently there have been changes to the national entitlement and funding sources for local schemes have come to an end. These changes have coincided with an LA evaluation of the effectiveness of its induction support.

Consequently and in partnership with Headteacher representative groups, Norfolk Teaching Schools and other system leaders, the LA has developed a new high quality local induction and support programme that covers the first two years of Headship. It is a unique offer designed only for new, first time Headteachers in Norfolk to compliment the national entitlement.

Further information for the Chair of Governors is available. This clearly explains the full the benefits of the programme, the potential risks of opting out and the cost. We believe that this programme is the best way for governors to support their new Headteacher and to secure their future in leading the school to further improvement. Where appropriate therefore, the 'Norfolk Local Induction Programme for NEW, first time Headteachers' will be discussed with the Chair of Governors at the end of their recruitment process.
